Tver is a regional center that has a very unique location. It’s situated between Moscow and St.Petersburg. It’s situated on the banks of the longest river in Europe the Volga. Tver is a very ancient city with a very rich history. It was founded in early 900s by Slavic tribes. Michael Tverskoy was one of the famous princes of Tver. It was a very strong kingdom at his time and competed with Moscow to be called the capital. The city's history is closely connected with great dates and names of Russian history. For example, the Great Russian Empress Catherine the Great built herself a palace here which is now an Art Gallery with a very rich collection of art pieces.
Today Tver is a regional, cultural, economical, administrative and industrial center. The biggest industry in the city is the Railway Carriage building and construction.
